As the president and CEO of Benefitfocus, Shawn A. Jenkins is responsible for the strategic positioning of the company he founded. Founded in 2000, Benefitfocus is touted as the fastest growing technology company in the state of South Carolina. He is one of the founders and sits on the board of directors. Prior to his work with Benefitfocus, Shawn was vice president and principal for American Pensions, Inc.
Jenkins' vision to automate the management of healthcare benefits by supporting healthcare insurance carriers, brokers, employer groups and consumers has been realized. As his company continues to grow, he has positioned it as the leader in enterprise and consumer healthcare information technology for a continually evolving healthcare insurance market. Under his leadership, Benefitfocus has grown exponentially and supports over 314,000 employers, 477 insurance carriers and 53.8 million consumers.
By developing technology that supports new consumer-based healthcare initiatives, Benefitfocus is providing the framework to support consumers as they make complex healthcare decisions. The company is at the forefront of initiatives that will help lower healthcare costs, integrate healthcare data and make healthcare more accessible.
Jenkins earned a B.A. Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa., and a MBA from Charleston Southern University. In addition to leading a world-class company, Jenkins' hobby is his children. Together they are actively involved in giving back to the community through a wide-range of philanthropic activities, including the Lowcountry Food Bank, MUSC Foundation and the Dream Center.
